Assignment 5
Summary of Perou's work
Style-Perou's work is very stylised and commercial, but he also shares a lot of variety. If you look at his diary work or personal section it's very natural and resembles an everyday photo.
Technique- Perou always uses a digital camera and a studio or on location for his work.
Narrative- Perou's work doesn't normally have a larger amount of a narrative they are normally for fashion or Tv so it doesn't have a message other than promoting the label. Perou did do a homeless campaign with a huge narrative, raising awareness for the homeless.
Context- Overall all of Perou's work is very commercial and fits together in his general body of work.
My work
So I thought I'd try something a little different. The typical way was to get some of Perou's commercial work and try and recreate. They say to never work with animals so that's what I did. Bit of a mistake.
So I got my Dog, Cookie to model for me, firstly- she needs a haircut, her fur is covering her eyes and she looks little a giant fluff ball.
So I picked her up and tried creating some of Perou's work on his 'secret diary'. Some of the photo's include his dog's in positions which look comfortable and natural. After a while she started getting grumpy with me, maybe she isn't model material like Perou's dog's.
I tried to re-create some of the positions but try and put something different forward. Like getting her to look the opposite way.
I didn't get a lot of good photo's and I wouldn't want to use most of them, so here are the 'alright' ones.

Obviously you can tell which one is Perou's work. I haven't edited these photo's which would improve the quality. Perou's background is faded which looks much better. Also Perou's isn't full length of the dog's body.
Improvements- Editing.
I may be able to get my Dog to pose again and edit this post.Wednesday, 9 October 2013

Assignment 3
Depth of field
font-weight: normal;">Depth of field- The distance between the nearest and furthest objects. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0KmnnJQ3X_k
This video is good because it is simple.
Depth of field- This photo looks as if it has a short depth of field as the man looks on an equal level as the circular object behind, but he is sitting about a metre in front of it so the depth of friend is longer.
Factual- This photo was taken by John Hedgecoe. He was an award winning photographer and author of over 30 books of photography.
Context- This photo fits in with John Hedgecoe's body of work. His photos are normally black and white and traditional looking.
Technical- I think this photo was taken by an older camera, outside in a casual open place as the photo was probably taken 10-20 years ago.
Assignment 3
Composition

This is a really good web
site because it gives you a lot of tips on how to understand composition and how to improve your photo's.
Composition- The action of putting things together.
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=u7AOgJFMBKA

Composition- This photo has been put together really precisely. All the people are in positions which are all a little bit different.
Factual- This photo was taken by Ralph John Perou, known professionally as Perou. He is a British fashion and music photographer.
Context- I wouldn't say that this photo fitted in with Perou's work because it is very diverse and every piece is different.
Technical- I think this photo was taken with a digital camera in a studio.
Depth of field- This photo has a long depth of field. All of the models have about a metre between them and the background is in focus.

Assignment 3
Lighting
Lighting- This photo is very bright and clear. Maybe the white and brightness represent pureness as she is a child.
Factual-This photo was taken by Vee Speers, an Australian photographer based in Paris.
Context- This photo fits in with Vee Speers' style and body of work. She normally takes pictures of children. This photo is one of a series called '13'.
Technical- I think this photo was taken in a studio with a white backdrop. I think a high quality camera was used to take this photo.
Depth of field- This photo has no depth of field as there is only one object in the photo, the girl.
Lighting- http://www.thefreedictionary.com/lighting

This video is very quick so you can't get bored easily when you watch it. It's very simple as it's just the photographer.

Assignment 3

Focal Point
Focal point- The centre of activity or interest.
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ugu8NkgncKs
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ugu8NkgncKs
This video is good because it gives good examples.
Focal point- The focal point in this photo is Leonardo Dicaprio and the Swan which is wrapped around his neck. The swan and Dicaprio stand out because the Swan is lighter than the background and so is his face.
Factual- This photo was taken by Annie Liebovitz an American photographer.
Context- Annie Liebovitz is a very diverse photographer, if you look at her work she doesn't have a particular style so this photo doesn't really fit in with her body of work because it is all so different.
Technical- I think this photo was taken with a digital camera. The scenery behind, which is a field is natural and the black and white effect has been put on.
Depth of field- This photo has a short depth of field because the background is out of focus.

First Analysis.
This photo was taken by Ralph John Perou, professionally known as Perou.
I like this photo because its simple. It looks natural and not planned too much. I like the colour of the liquid because its contrasts like the black and white. The picture doesn't look neat, the background looks dirty and the liquid is in motion.
I think the photo was taken in a studio with a backdrop which was created specifically for these series of photo's. I think it was taken with a digital camera and lights were used to highlight the focal point.
I like the style of the photo. It's current and the whole aesthetic is modern.
